Who
could help prevent bullying?
Key statement
Many programmes to
prevent bullying call for the support of not only staff
and pupils in a school, but also family and the wider community.

Comment
Research
shows us that bullying is a complex phenomenon in which
parents, teachers and the general school environment all
play a part. Ken Rigby has a useful model which explains
this. This is taken from his book 'Bullying in Schools and
What to do About It' which is published by the Australian
Council for Educational Research (ACER).
If this model is a
fair representation of what happens in a bullying situation
it follows that any solution must also involve all members
of the school community and include a consideration of issues
such as school ethos and policies.
