Ethos is Here to Stay!Ethos is Here to Stay!
A handbook of printed and electronic resources to help all schools develop a more positive ethos

A positive school ethos is so important for the development and well-being of children and young people, and for the adults who work with them, that ethos has its own set of quality indicators (QIs) in the self-evaluation handbook for schools How Good is Our School? (HGIOS). This was developed by the Scottish Schools Inspectorate (HMIE), drawing on a range of Scottish schools' own practices and on indicators drafted by a working group that included key figures in what was to become the Scottish Schools Ethos Network. For many schools, developing a positive ethos was viewed as a key task long before the introduction of QIs, even if the term 'ethos' was not always used.

The 'Ethos is Here to Stay!' handbook, developed by the Scottish Schools Ethos Network team, offers a selection of printed and electronic resources to support school communities in the search for relevant experience, ideas, advice and information to help them develop a more positive ethos in their own schools.
